Examinations Council (also known as NECO) is an examination body in Nigeria that conducts the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and the General Certificate in Education in June/July and November/December respectively. The National Examination Council (NECO) is administered to people in their 6th Year of basic education for admission into federal unity college. The council was established to take over the responsibilities of the National Board for Educational Measurement (NBEM) which was created, in 1992, by the Ibrahim Babangida administration. Remember before the establishment of NECO, the conduct of the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE).

The National Examination Council is an examination body in Nigeria that conducts the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the General Certificate in Education in June/July and November/December respectively.

One of the core mandates of the Council as espoused in the enabling Act is the conduct of the Senior School Certificate Examination for internal and external candidates.

One thing you must understand is that the upper secondary education is otherwise known as senior secondary school is concluded with exams from either the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or the National Examinations Council (NECO). The high school chooses either the WAEC or the NECO.

To pass a NECO exam, a student must successfully write exams in 9 subjects. Mathematics and English are the most important. A failure in any of these is a failure in all. Finally, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is the main examination to qualify students for admission into secondary and vocational schools in Ghana and Nigeria.
